7. Numbness or Tingling in the Face
Facial numbness or tingling—especially on one side—is a classic stroke warning sign that can appear early.
This may feel like:
- Pins and needles
- Partial facial drooping
- Loss of sensation around the mouth or cheek
Even if the sensation resolves quickly, it should be evaluated promptly.
8. Sudden Fatigue Without Clear Cause
Unexplained, extreme fatigue that appears suddenly and persists may be another early indicator.
This fatigue:
- Is not relieved by rest
- Feels disproportionate to activity
- Appears alongside other subtle symptoms
The brain uses a significant amount of energy, and reduced blood flow can cause overwhelming tiredness.
9. Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs)
The strongest predictor of a future stroke is a previous TIA.
Symptoms of a TIA may include:
- Temporary paralysis
- Speech difficulty
- Vision loss
- Sudden numbness
- Confusion
TIAs may last only minutes, but they are a medical emergency. Many strokes occur within days or weeks of a TIA if no action is taken.
